Admissions

Broadwater Academy is an independent Pre-Kindergarten-Grade 12 school on Virginia’s Eastern Shore, one of the most pristine ecosystems on the Atlantic coast.

We prepare our students to be successful at the nation’s best colleges.

  • Broadwater’s challenging curriculum prepares students to be successful in college and beyond.
  • Founded in 1966, Broadwater Academy has sent graduates to over 250 colleges and universities in the US and abroad.
  • Most graduates attend colleges and universities Barron’s rates as “highly selective” and “selective.”
  • Among the school’s 1,450 alumni are doctors, lawyers, political leaders, and entrepreneurs.
  • The average combined SAT scores for the class of 2018 were just shy of 1300.
  • Broadwater Academy students earn almost two years of college credit before graduating through dual enrollment and Advanced Placement courses.
  • The Junior Independent Thesis and Senior Independent Thesis give students the research, writing, and presentation skills that will serve them the rest of their lives.
  • Students benefit from a wide array of opportunities to explore their interests and passions, from athletics to the arts to community engagement.
  • The level of academic excellence begins in Lower School and spirals up through each grade.

Our students engage with an unparalleled place-based learning environment.

  • The Eastern Shore’s coastal marshes, bays, and barrier islands constitute the purest ecosystem of its kind on the east coast. Broadwater partners with the Eastern Shore’s wealth of world-class research entities, including the Virginia Institute of Marine Science Eastern Shore Lab, the Long-Term Ecological Research Center, and the Nature Conservancy, to provide rich hands-on educational experiences for its students.
  • Teachers at every grade level ensure that students engage and learn from our community’s rural nature and rich cultural history.

Our teachers create a nurturing, safe environment in which every student is encouraged to fulfill their highest potential.

  • A signature of the Broadwater experience is the care and attention faculty and staff provide to each student. From one-on-one Parent-Teacher conferences in Lower School to a customized college guidance experience in Upper School, your child will benefit from being a part of our Broadwater family.

Without a doubt, Broadwater Academy will prepare your child for a fulfilling life and career.
